Wallpaper the stuff we have finally finished getting rid of in our DIY projects is now back and more expensive and luxurious than ever. That is why I think it is now being used as a feature wall. Full of wonderful color, texture and patterns, the choices are endless and the complexity of styles is fantastic. You can even get murals in wallpaper now! But be careful what you choose as you have to live with for awhile.
At last we will now get to see some real creativity happening in homes, combining wallpaper, paint and fabrics. A good combination of textures, colors and patterns. A visual symphony waiting to be created. So get out there now and create a feature wall for your home, but I must stress, there is still the need to keep them to a minimum. Use them as a feature. The term “feature” should be the point to remember. Use them to highlight an important area and make a focal point in your home to create your feature.
If paint is more your style, choose a wall that is going to be the focus. It could be the one you see as soon as you walk in, or has the bed against it. In the bedroom, although people use a lot of red, for you hot blooded people out there, you should keep it muted and not a clear red. Muted colours will provide more rest, than the clear colours. It can still be deep and full bodied, just remember you do sleep in the bedroom. If it is in the family area or lounge, depending on the mood you want to create, go for sophisticated or fun colours. A Feature wall should be just that, but your can make the feature wall be a canvas to highlight other features. For instance, you have some family photos. Start by putting the photos in similar colour frames, paint the wall deep dark colour and hang your photos, the deep colour will make your photos stand out.
